Care Packages

In 2015, over 7,000 persons experienced homelessness in Austin, Texas.  To help our neighbors, children in our summer learning program made and distributed care packages. You can help more people by making and distributing care packages as well.

Gallon sized re-sealable plastic bags (like Ziploc)

Toiletries: baby wipes, lip balm, lotion, sunscreen, deodorant, tissues, toothbrush/paste, Q-tips, comb

Food: applesauce, pudding cups, disposable spoon, trail mix, beef jerky, dried fruit such as raisins, chewable vitamins, bottle of water

Miscellaneous items: hat, gloves, socks, Band-Aids, and other items that people may need

Blank note card and crayons, markers or pencils

Place all the toiletries, food and miscellaneous items in the bag

Write an encouraging note or happy holidays note to go in the bag. “Dear Friend” is a great way to start the note.

Keep bag in car and pass out when you see someone in need.

Wide-Eyed & Smiley is the look you see on the faces of children when they awaken to something new—something they were born to do. It's a look we spark everyday after school and during the summer as we engage children in literacy, STEM, art, sports, and social and emotional learning activities.

We invite you to bring Wide-eyed & Smiley to your home this holiday season with our holiday-inspired recipes and activities

Send your gift  today! Any gift you can make—no matter how large or small—will transform the time a child spends outside the classroom into real opportunities. #GivingTuesday #ARFSmiley
